Why do we make such a big deal out of their relationships when they barely last a couple of months?
With social media being part of our lives, we have the option to choose what we consume from it. The average person may find themselves comparing their life to that of a celebrity, from clothing brands to what a relationship should be.
In the world of the rich and famous, the usual gift a man gives a woman he “loves”, is a Birkin bag. The Hermés bag became popular amongst celebs Cardi B and Saweetie, both of whose relationships were seen as ‘goals’ to the public. However, it isn’t realistic for the average person to compare their lifestyle and standards to theirs.
This has led to some women becoming greedy and over-possessive as they then begin to compare their relationship to that of celebrities who have barely been together for not more than a time frame of 6 months.
I’ve come across a few stories where some men have found themselves in debt from trying to please a woman and exceeding what they can offer.
Why can’t you be your own goal?
People are quick to throw the word “goals” when they see a new relationship trending. Why can’t the relationship your grandparents have or your own parents (if they aren’t divorced) be your goals? There has to be something special there for them to be together still all those years, but you’d rather be quick to fantasize over a toxic relationship that revolves around wealth as a solution for every problem. Buying gifts doesn’t change whether you cheat or abuse your partner.
It doesn’t fix the damage done.
To sum it up, social media isn’t real.
